Cooperatives are not only a viable way of
doing business, they are also an inspired
way of thinking about work, democracy,
The Coast Canning Cooperative aims to
begin registering as a fully incorporated cooperative by the end of 2016, with a membership drive to follow soon afterwards.
In order for it to become the collective and Coast-wide initiative that it aspires to be however, we need more people on board. So this is a great time to contact us. Let us know what aspect of membership most appeals to you and also, what skills/expertise you can offer to help us reach our goals.
While the details of membership are still simmering,
here is a glimpse of what we expect membership to offer:
For beginner canners:
-reduced rates & first access to seasonal canning 101 workshops
-discounts at The Seasoned Kitchen store
-invitation to take part in the 'Stock Your Pantry' program
-access to on-line canning support & recipe forum
-occasion to participate in bulk order of canning ingredients and supplies (pectin, jars, sugar, etc.)
-priority participation in annual organic fruit order
-a say in the future of the Coast Canning Cooperative
-opportunity to purchase a share in the Cooperative and to share in the Cooperative's success
For experienced canners (all of the above as well as):
-participation in member-to-member skill-sharing workshops
-priority access to canning kitchen and equipment
-invitation to annual canning exchange
6-opportunity to join work parties or lead workshops
-chance to train and get hired as part of the main canning team
Let us know what you think, what you're excited about, and what you could offer.
"A lot of us are wishing for a way back home, to the place where care-and-feeding isn’t zookeeper’s duty but something happier and more creative."
